Kickboxing is Selected for IWGA World Games 2017 Wroclaw

April 7, 2014 became a historical date in kickboxing history. General annual meeting of IWGA (International World Games Association) took place in Belek, Antalya, Turkey during SportAcoord Convention 2014.  José Perurena Lopez, member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), was elected President of the Internation World Games Association (IWGA) until 2018. Another very important topic of the agenda of this meeting was voting for candidate sports and as a result of the voting Kickboxing has been elected as a the new member of IWGA (International World Games Association). This is a huge step for kickboxing sport because IWGA (International World Games Association) is under the patronage of the IOC (International Olympic Committee) and Kickboxing is a candidate sport for IOC recognation. This step will provide a good progress for IOC recognation process and it is a big plus in this road to Olympic Games.

Meeting With José Perurena, President of IEGA

On the photo Salim Kayici,( WAKO Board member) José Perurena (IWGA President) Espen Lund (WAKO IF Acting President) were together at a formal meeting soon after the recognition of Kickboxing by IWGA (International World Games Association).

After these happenings, on 20th of April 2014, Speedway, Kickboxing, American Football and Indoor Rowing – these four disciplines were selected for the Invitational Program of The World Games 2017. This was announced by the City of Wroclaw and the Wroclaw Organizing Committee.

This proposition has already been approved by the International World Games Association (IWGA). Piotr Przygonski, President of Wroclaw Organizing Committee reminded that the short list included eight sports from which up to five disciplines with no more than 800 participants could have been selected.

Piotr Przygonski said: “We will now sign an organizing agreement with each of the international federations of the four sports. We would like to sign the agreements with selected federations no later than mid-May. The 10th edition of the World Games will take place in Wroclaw (Poland) from the 3rd until August 13th 2017.

As a result kicboxing achieved a great acomplishment with becoming a member of IWGA (International World Games Association) and being selected for the Invitational Program of The World Games 2017 Wroclaw. Congratulations to everyone who contributed for this historical achievement.
